Join our 2014 NAMIWalk and fight stigma!

I love this quote! Last summer I was at an art fair and bought a small pendant that said “Tell Your Story”. When I saw that pendant it stopped me in my tracks and really resonated with me.

So many of our families with NAMI have a story to tell but sometimes hesitate to do so due to the stigma that surrounds mental illness. I have been amazed over and over again at the results of sharing about the impact that mental illness has had on my family. The result is often someone coming up to me and saying “me too”. Mental illness impacts 1 in 4 families in the United States yet so few talk about it. This leads to people not knowing where to turn to for help and education. Please join us this year and “Tell Your Story” by joining our NAMI Northside Atlanta 2014 walk team. Help us raise awareness and end stigma!

This year we celebrate the theme of “Be a HERO for Mental Health”.

The NAMIWalk & 5K Run Atlanta will be held on Saturday, November 1 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

The NAMIWalk is open to anyone interested in building awareness for NAMI Georgia and mental health, raising funds to support NAMI Georgia’s programs, and celebrating mental illness recovery. There is no registration fee to walk. The walk will be a 5K (3.1 miles) that will follow the same route as the 5K run. The path is designed to be a comfortable walk entirely inside the park.

The NAMIRun is a USTAF Certified 5K Chip-Timed Race and is a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race! The race is open to runners of any level. The course is a fast course for a fast time. There is a $25 registration fee for runners. All runners will receive a moisture wicking NAMIRuns Atlanta shirt, an official qualifying time, and more. The race will be held in advance of the walk to allow runners to participate in both if they desire.

Please visit and join the “Northsiders” team. Tell your story!
